James Glover "finds" and
In 1873 James Glover traveled from Oregon into the "upper
country" -- the frontier interior of the Pacific Northwest. He went
by steamboat to Lewiston, then rented a horse and road on to north. The
area was lightly populated with few roads. Often he and his companion, Jasper
Matheny simply, cut across the country. they were looking for a place to
build a town and make a fortune.
