Roads, Trails, and Journeys

James Glover "finds" and founds Spokane

In 1873 James Glover traveled from Oregon into the "upper country" -- the frontier interior of the Pacific Northwest. He went by steamboat to Lewiston, then rented a horse and road on to north. The area was lightly populated with few roads. Often he and his companion, Jasper Matheny simply, cut across the country. they were looking for a place to build a town and make a fortune.
